I bet most of you don't know, but I'm a huge fan of the film Jesus Christ Superstar. I think it's a brilliant musical and the score is just *breathtaking*. Today, as I do every Easter, I have been listening to the album and I come here to tell you that, although Ted Neeley's rendition of Jesus is excellent, you have to listen to the man who played this part in the first version of this musical in Spain, in 1975:
He's Camilo Sesto and IMO he's the best Spanish singer of the last century. His voice leaves me speechless and his version of Gethsemane is simply *the best*. Neeley's is very good, of course, but Sesto's is just outworldly. He really makes me believe this is a man asking his father why he has to be murdered. It chills me to the bone, honestly. Watch that live video, look at his face! I have never seen anybody else *feeling* that much what he's singing.
Hope all of you are having a happy Easter!
PS: Also apparently he was (he's still alive though) a very nice man with his fans! My mum was a huge fan when she was 15 and by pure chance she got to meet him at her local radio. He was all charming with her and her friends, signed them stuff and talked to them! She said that he wrote her "To Isabel, my most special memory goes for you" or something like that, how lovely is that????? She says that he had recently broken up with a woman called like her, so that's maybe why he wrote her a special autograph... Anyway, so sweet! I love when she tells me that anecdote <3
